  • Political party 
    an organization of people with similar political values that develop a set of goals/policies that it seeks to enact through becoming the Government/becoming part of the Government/influencing the Government. It may pursue goals by mobilising public opinion, selecting candidates for office, competing at elections and identifying leaders
  • Middle way economics: Support for Keynesian economics, welfare states and mixed economies
  • In 2010 they received 1% of the total UK vote share, in 2015 this rose to 3.8%, 2017 it was 1.9% and 2019 they had 2.7%.
  • Two party system: only two parties have a realistic chance of forming government. Two parties win the vast majority of the votes at elections and most of the seats in the representative assemblies
  • Three party system: two parties dominate but not sufficiently to govern alone. The third smaller party, therefore is in a pivotal position. One of the larger parties always makes some kind of agreement
  • Multi -party system: several or many parties competing for votes and power.
  • Privatisation – The process of selling state owned assets to private companies.
  • Public Ownership - When an asset belongs to the public rather than being privately owned.
  • In November 2022 the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Scottish Parliament did not have the power to legislate itself for a second Scottish Independence Referendum.
