Sign Test

Cards (6)

    • Data will be given in the form of +, -
    • If data from one condition is more than mark as +, less -
    • Same number/result, data is ignored
    • Add up + and -
    • We take the less frequent sign and call this S
    • S is the calculated value
    • Compare calculated value with critical value given
    • Use 0.05 significance unless said otherwise to find the value of 'N'
    • Consider whether test is one-tailed (directional) or two-tailed (non-directional)
    • The calculated value of S must be equal to or less than the critical value at the 0.05 level of significance
    • No significance means the null hypothesis must be accepted and the alternative hypothesis must be rejected
    • Therefore there is not enough evidence to suggest there is a significant difference between variables tested
    • Significance means the alternative hypothesis must be accepted and the null hypothesis must be rejected
    • Therefore there is enough evidence to suggest there is a significant systematic difference between variables tested
