• CZECHOSLOVAKIA - PRAGUE SPRING (1968)

  what happened? :

  > Alexander Dubcek became leader of Czech in 1968

  > Dubcek stated he wanted “socialism with a human face”

  > Czech people where unhappy : poverty rates where high with low living standards, everything was censored, no freedom of speech

  > Czech people tried to break away from russia and communism (not successfully)

  > Brezhnev warned Dubcek what would happen if he tried to break away by putting tanks on the border

  > brezhnev sent in half a million Warsaw pact troops
• CZECHOSLOVAKIA - BREZHNEV DOCTRINE

  if you try to break away from communism + Russia we will crush you with tanks
• CZECHOSLOVAKIA - PRAGUE SPRING

  consequence on Czech and Dubcek:

  > didn’t gain freedom

  > some Czech people injured or killed

  > Russia took over again

  > Dubcek thrown out of communist party and taken out of the leadership role in Czech
