• What is the aim for this practical?

  To measure the distribution of organisms using quadrats and transects.
• The steps:

  • Place a quadrat at random locations.
  • Count the number of plants/organisms inside.
  • Repeat and calculate an average per m².
  • If using a transect, place quadrats at regular intervals along a line to measure changes.
• What is the independent variable?

  Location.
• What is the dependent variable?

  Number of organisms.
• What is the control variable?

  Quadrat size, sampling method.
