    In stave two the ghost of Christmas past is introduced he carries around a cap which is a symbol of scrooge's mean and misery attitude which puts down hope which is symbolised in the Ghosts light
  • When Scrooge sees his past he is presented as vulnerable unlike in stave one he he sees himself as a school boy this causes him to sob
    "a solitary child neglected"
    "he knew it. and sobbed"
  • Scrooge had a broken relationship with his father however he loved his little sister fan very much.

    When Scrooge leaves his school was found their carriage knocks "snow off the dark leaves" symbolising how she helped him escape his cold lonely life this four Shadows how family helps Scrooge escape the cold isolation of his adult life too
  • Being showed fan Scrooge is reminded of of his nephew Fred he is reminded of his sisters "large heart" and forces him to reconsider his relationship with Fred

    screech feels "uneasy in his mind" about the way he has treated his nephew
  • Scrooge is shown fizzy wig who is an example of a good boss
    Scrooge did not used think Money was more important than happiness. Scrooge begins to understand the power he has to improve Bob cratchit's life

    "I should like to be able to say a word or two to my clerk just now!
  • "Another Idol has replaced me"

    this shows that when Scrooge grew he replaced love and family for money resulting in a fear of poverty
  • Scrooge become sad that he chose money over family when he sees bells daughter Bell's husband describes things Scrooge in his office "quite alone in the world" this description contrast with the happiness of bells family

    Scrooge's upset by these scenes and in a "broken voice" he asks to be taken home and asked to Ghost "why do you Delight torture me?"
  • "i am mortal and liable to fall"

    dickens uses this quote to reflect how mortal people are liable to fall in life by being miserable and uncharitable.
  • scrooge is shown as a "solitary child, neglected by his friends"
  • "i should have given him something, that's all"

    scrooge regrets not giving something to the carol singer that knocked on his door
  • belle explains their "agreement" was made when they were both "poor and content" which shows money is not the sole purpose of life. love and companionship plays a huge part in our character; scrooge chose to be selfish and develop a greed for money instead.
  • belles husband describes scrooge to be "sat alone"..."quite alone in the world"
  • "haunt me no longer"
  • "he wrestled with it" referring to the ghost
  • "scrooge pressed it down with all his force, he could not hide the light"
