Cards (4)

  • What does increasing pressure do?
    • Increases the collisions of C & D & E and increases the backward rate of reaction even more than the forwards rate.
    • Increases the collisions of A & B and increases the forward rate of reaction.
  • Pressure & Equilibrium (INCREASING)
If you increase the pressure inside the reaction vessel, the position of the equilibrium will shift to reduce the pressure and will move to the side with fewer molecules.
  • Pressure & Equilibrium (DECREASING)
If you decrease the pressure inside the reaction vessel, the position of the equilibrium will shift to increase the pressure and will move to the side with more moles
  • Pressure & Equilibrium (EQUAL)
When there are an equal number of molecules of gas on both sides of the balanced equation, changing the pressure will have no effect on the equilibrium. Increasing pressure will increase the speed of both forwards and reverse reactions.
