Global warming and Climate change

Cards (8)

  • The atmosphere is a layer of gasses surrounding the earth that is help in place by gravity.
  • Greenhouse gases;
    Water vapour
    Methane
    Carbon dioxide
  • Greenhouse affect
1.Solar radiation from sun passes through atmosphere and hits earth.
2.some energy is reflected back towards space, some is absorbed by earth and then remitted towards space.
3.some of the remitted energy makes it all way to space, but much absorbed by small gases called greenhouse gases.
4.these molecules then remit energy and process repeats.
5.this trapped energy keeps atmosphere warmer and more stable than it would otherwise be.
  • Until now, Earths atmosphere has always been same temperature.
    False. Its always fluctuated.
  • What is the difference between global warming and climate change?
Global warming refers to overall increase in earths temp.
Climate change is a consequence of global warming.
  • One effect of global warming is the melting of ice caps. This will increase the volume of water in the ocean and could lead to seasonal flooding, or submersion of entire islands.
  • Difference between the climate and the weather?
Weather refers to short term atmospheric conditions (eg each day).
Climate describes typical weather conditions in entire region for a long time.
  • An impact of climate change around the world?
Species in affected areas may become extinct.
