  • Behaviour is classified as abnormal if it is rare of statistically unusual
  • 68% of people have an IQ between 85 and 115
  • Less than 2% of the population have an IQ below 70 making them statistically rare
    Regard them as having abnormally low IQs and they can receive a diagnosis of intellectual disability disorder
    They also need to be failing to function adequately for this diagnosis as well
  • Less than 2% of the population have an IQ above 130 making them statistically rare
    These people may not be considered abnormal in society however as there is a negative stigma around abnormality - evaluation point
