At the begging of this stage , babies lack object permanence , meaning that hiding a toy from then will make them think that they toy doesn't exist .
What are the key features of the Pre-Operational stage?
Animism -Children in this stage believe that inanimate objects have feelings.
Egocentrism - Children in this stage lack empathy because they believe that everyone sees the world in the same way they do. Are unable to understand that different people, can be thinking or feeling different things.
Reversibility -Children are unable to think about things in reverse order. They are unable to understand that if you take or add something away from a an object you can return it to its original state.
What are the key feature in the Concrete operational stage?
Conservation- Children at this stage are able to conserve. This means that if they see a substance like liquid or clay, or an object such a piece of string , change its shape, they realise that the volume , mass or length do not change .
Decentration- Children are able to focus more on more than one aspect of the situation.
What happens in the formal operational stage?
Will be able to demonstrate abstract thinking . They also start to think more logically and can compare and contrast different theories or sides of debate.
