Protein synthesis

    Cards (3)

    • Describe the steps for protein synthesis
      1. Gene for the protein is copied from DNA
      2. Copy of the gene moves to the cytoplasm
      3. The copy of the gene moves to the ribosome in the cytoplasm
      4. Ribosome joins the amino acids together in the correct sequence to make a protein
    • Where are proteins made
In the cytoplasm in the ribosomes
    • How do the ribosomes make proteins
Ribosomes use the code in the DNA. DNA can't move out of the nucleus because it's big. So, the cell needs to get the code from the DNA to the ribosomes. This is done using mRNA. It carries the code between the DNA and ribosomes. Then, the correct amino acids are brought to the ribosomes in the correct order by the carrier molecules.
