  • Skill strength- breaststroke leg action

-drive leg so fast during glide phase and they get a good distance per stroke
-simple skill which is gross (involves large muscle groups)
    -self paced
    -discrete (clear beginning and end)
-Swimming tends to be closed skill based (environment doesn't change)
Allows to get in good body position so more streamline
  • Skill strength- turns

-shown in the video when the performer comes off the wall fast to overtake competitors
-plants feet on wall knees and ankles, which are examples of hinge joints at 90 degrees
-allows them to maximise powerful push off
-example of a isotonic concentric muscle contraction
  • Fitness strength-muscular endurance
    -strong back end
    -increased speed last 50m
    - cardio endurance very important as it means they can swim at moderately fast pace for a long time
-best was to train this is continuous training of fartlek as it is long efforts with short rest
  • Fitness strength- power
-seen on their push off the walls
  • Skill weakness-dive
-the swimmer was last to 15m
-the take your marks position is an example of an isometric contraction
-having a good dive is beneficial as it means you carry speed better through the water and and also if you start ahead it can give you confidence
  • Skill weakness- backstroke BP

-because their hips sank in the water which made them less streamlined
