Portable Water Distillation Device using Mechanical Energy

• The device is designed to be portable, lightweight, and easy to use.
• • Activated Charcoal=Helps to adsorb metallic ions, also helps to adsorb metallic and organic compounds
• • Distillation= Process of turning liquid into vapor—in this case water—and then cooling it back down to collect the pure form of the desired liquid
• Boiling - The process of heating up the liquid to turn them into vapor
• Condensation - The process of cooling down vapor to turn it back into its liquid state
• • Gear Ratio=Ratio ng teeth ng mga gears, Dito made determine yung Speed and Torque. 
• Torque = Motor torque / Gear ratio
• Speed = Gear ratio x Motor speed (rpm)
• Torque - Power ng gear, eto yung strength na kaya iproduce ng gear
• Speed - Indirect proportion sya ng torque, mas mabilis ang ikot ng gears, mas mahina ang torque
• pH (Acidity) - Potential Hydrogen, This is a method to check the acidity of a substance from 1 being the acidic to 12 being the basic. 
• Acidity = to determine the ph level or the water's acidity. Extreme ph levels can change the taste, and safeness of water.
• Salinity= helps ensure that the water is removing salts and maintain the water quality
• Acidity = monitoring the pH level of the water ensures that the distillation device will not provide a water that is too acidic which can affect its drinkability and usability
• • Salinity=Number of salt particles in a liquid. can be measured in Parts per million (ppm) and parts per thousand (ppt) 
• Salinity = Distillation is a method of  Desalination that will be making it crucial to monitor the  salinity levels to confirm the removal of salt.
• Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) - refers to the total amount of substances dissolved in a solvent, particularly water. 
• TDS= to ensure the water quality. Helps access the water quality and high tds level means that there is still presence of minerals, salts and other impurities
• TDS= the changes in TDS levels before and after indicates the efficiency of the distillation device in removing dissolved solids.
• • Heating Coil=used to boil the water. Similar sya sa mga electric Kettle 
• Condenser Coil (still not sure) -Used to cool down, or speed up the cooling process
• • Fan-Used to speed up the process of cooling down
• Condenser tube - Used to contain the steam na need icool down. 
• Dynamo - Used to convert mechanical energy to Electrical Current. 
• Pedal - Used to generate mechanical energy
• Gears - Used yo connect the pedal to the Dynamo, It will also increase the efficiency of the pedal
• Filter Paper - To filter out large sediments and microorganisms.
• • In the Philippines, only 89% of families have access to clean water. (Statista, 2023).
• • Within the Philippines, the severity of the situation has prompted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to officially declare a state of water crisis. This dire circumstance is particularly alarming as it leaves a staggering 11 million families grappling with the harsh reality of limited or no access to potable water. (Cue, 2023).
• • Although deep wells and groundwater are suggested as an alternative solution for water scarcity, these sources of water are not sustainable and safe to drink. (Maynilad, 2023).
• • The movement of mechanical energy, or physical motion, from one machine component to another is often referred to as mechanical power transmission (Velling, 2021).
• • Pedaling is a cheap, healthier option that produces power. Bicycles with dynamos may power incandescent headlights at night, and the rotational energy generated by pedaling can power washing machines, blenders, grinders, and dynamos or alternators. (Chakole et al. 2019)
• • With this, Karthick, et. al. (2018) suggested a device for individuals in developing countries to utilize as a pedal-powered source of purified water.
• • Fletcher (2023), stated that distilled water is essentially not all that different from other kinds of purified water.
• • However, according to Blades (2022), you'll probably find it boring or lifeless. Even essential minerals and electrolytes like potassium are absent from distilled water. Therefore, if you just drink the distilled version, you can be missing out on some of these micronutrients.
• • Additionally, distilling water works incredibly well to get rid of unhealthy  contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, and chemical pollutants and microscopic parasites. (Schober, 2023)
• • Distillation is a phase in that process as well. Water purification's primary objective is to provide clean drinking water (Britannica, 2023)
• • According to Wagle (2019), water purification is the process of turning contaminated water pure by eliminating toxins or impurities
• • Sciencing (2019) discovered that although pure distilled water should have a pH of 7, it is somewhat acidic at 5.8 because it has absorbed carbon dioxide from the air.
• • Water filtration systems ensure safer and tastier water by eliminating impurities from drinking water using natural materials. (Ton Duc Thang University, 2018).
