  • WPA: Works Progress Admin
    Set up in 1935 with Harry Hopkins in charge (head of FERA in the first new deal)
    • 8 million employed to do projects
    • $11 billion spent on men and women in the towns and countryside regardless of race.
    • Provided work.
    Manual labour - roads/parks
    Women - Sewing + teaching
    Youth - training programs
    Writers/performers - guidebook writing
  • Help for Poor:
    Work Relief - helped poor find employment (CCC and PWA from first new deal, along with the new WPA)
    Provide temporary housing and improved conditions.
    • Built new suburban towns, however only 3 were constructed, promoting new agency.
    Working conditions: set out minimum wage and maximum hours.
