chemical mutagens

• • Chemicals cause mutation if cells are exposed to them at high frequencies + for long periods
• Cause change in dna→ alter the function of proteins→ impairs cellular processes
• • E.g ingested chemicals e.g alcohol or tar in tobacco
• • Chemicals mutagenic are structurally similar to normal bases in dna→ but mistakenly become incorporated into DNA during replication causing mispairing→ and non-functional proteins created.
