• • Origin cause of mutation: spontaneous mutations→ arise randomly as a result of error in natural processes.
• • Induced mutations arise from environmental agent increasing the chance of nucleotide sequence being changed
• • Effect of DNA mutation on DNA: nucleotide base may be substituted inserted or deleted→ may change in one amino acid 
• • Possible mutations are passed down through generations depending on whether a mutation is in a somatic germline cell. 
• • Non-coding dna mutation may/may not have severe effects depending on whether DNA sequence is involved in gene regulation
• • Effect of mutation on phenotype: silent mutation or variation in phenotype depending on the amino acid. Most often harmful, rarely beneficial.
