Reliability and Validity

• Red and blue litmus:

  • can determine if a substance is acidic or alkaline
  • it cannot determine the pH
  • you must use both types of litmus paper together
• Universal indicator:

  • tells whether the solution is acidic or alkaline and tells the strength
• pH meter:

  • accurate as it gives a digital reading and reduces human error
