  • What is internalisation ?
    Occurs when a person genuinely accepts the group norms. Results in a private and public change of behaviours. Likely to be a permanent change as attitudes have been internalised
  • What is identification ?
    Wanting to be part of a group so publicly changing our behaviours to achieve the goal even if we don’t privately agree with everything the group stands for
  • What is compliance ?
    Going along with others in public but not changing personal opinions. Superficial change and behaviours stop as soon as group pressure stops
  • What are the two explanations for conformity ?
    Informational social influence and normative social influence
