  • Examples of Agro based industries
    cotton, woollen, textile, rubber, tea, coffee, oil, etc.
  • examples of mineral based industries
    iron and steel, cement, machine tools, petrochemicals, etc
  • Basic or key industries are those which supply their products as raw materials to manufacture other goods.
    eg: iron and steel and copper smelting, etc.
  • consumer industries manufacture goods for direct use by consumers.
    eg: sugar, toothpaste, fans, etc.
  • A small scale industry is define with reference to the maximum investment allowed on the assets of a unit.
  • Public Sector is owned and operated by government agencies .

  • Private sector industries are owned and operated by individuals ora group of individuals.

  • Joint Sector industries are jointly run by the state and individuals or a group of individuals.
    For example, Oil India Ltd. (OIL)
  • Cooperative sector industries are owned and operated by the producers or suppliers of raw materials, workers or both.

  • The textile industry contributes significantly to:

    2. employment generation
    3. foreign exchange earnings
