    • Behavioural approach

      Sees all behaviour as environmentally determined by external influences we are unables to control
    • Biological approach
      Advocates genetic determinism and assumes that our behaviour is directed by innate forces
    • Psychodynamic approach

      Psychic determinism is the key feature of the psychodynamic approach as we do not know the unconscious forces driving our behaviour and these are rationalised by our conscious minds
    • Cognitive approach

      We are choosers of our thoughts and behaviours yet these choices can only operate within the limits of what we know/experienced
    • Social learning theory
      Reciprocal determinism which is the idea that as well as being influenced by the environment, we also exert some influence upon it
    • Humanistic approach
      Only the humanistic approach has complete free will and we operate as active agents who determine their own behaviour
