  • Salmonella bacteria is found in contaminated food (eg. raw chicken., egg)
  • Eating infected food that hasn’t been cooked properly or cross contamination are ways which salmonella is transmitted
  • Symptoms include:
    • Diarrhoea
    • Vomiting
    • Stomach Cramps
    • Fever (caused by bacterial toxins)
  • Prevention methods:
    • Properly cooking food
    • avoiding cross contamination
    • Vaccinating poultry
  • Treatment: usually self limiting (body recovers on its own), but hydration is essential. Antibiotics are rarely given.
