types of conformity

• conformity- a type of social influence involving a change in belief or behaviour in order to fit in with a group
• compliance- publically conforms with the behaviour of the majority but privately disagrees

  e.g. wearing a christmas hat
• identification- publically and privately accepting the majority view but it is only temporary

  e.g. supporting your new towns football team
• internalisation- publically and privately accepting the majority view and it is permanent

  e.g. staying christian after you leave uni
