  • Plot is a sequence of events in a narrative. It is a cause-and-effect chain of events that has a beginning point, a climax, and a resolution.
  • Exposition is an introduction of characters, settings, and conflict, providing all the necessary background information.
  • Rising action occurs when the conflicts develop and takes on newer, more complicated incidents, and reading to the climax.
  • Climax is when the conflict reaches a peak, which then leads to a change in the course of events, giving the reader a new understanding of the story either through an event or an insight.
  • Falling action is when the conflict gets resolved and the action slows down.
  • Resolution is when the conflict ends, and leaving the reader fulfilled.
  • Characters are the people, animals, or either figures who appear in your stories. They perform actions and say dialogue to move the story along. Without characters, a story cant exist.
  • Protagonist is the main character in the story.
  • Antagonist is the one that opposes the protagonist.
  • Dynamic are the characters who goes through some sort of change.
  • Static are the characters who does not change throughout the course of the story.
  • Round are the characters who is fully developed figure.
  • Setting establishes a time, place, and environment in which the characters and events of the story are based.
  • Conflict is a struggle between two people or things in a short story. The main character is usually on one side of the central conflict.
  • Internal conflict is a person's struggle with themselves, it takes place inside the psyche of a character.
  • External conflict takes place between different people or groups of people. It is possible to further divide this type of conflict based on who or what the protagonist are struggling against.
  • Man vs. Man is the most traditional type of conflict. As the name would suggest, "man vs man" conflict involves two or more characters that oppose each other.
  • Man vs. Self is a type of conflict that involves introspection, and a character's struggles with their own morality, vises, semse of self, and goals.
  • Man vs. Nature is a type of conflict that pits the characters against the forces of nature, and to some extent, the unknown.
  • Man vs. Society shows a struggle between a character and larger social forces. Conflicts arise when a community's commandments disallow the individual's choices or innate desires.
  • Man vs. Supernatural is a type of conflict arise when a protagonist goes against a character with magical or mystrical abilities.
  • Theme is the central idea or belief in the story.
