Standard Model

    Cards (12)

    • What are Orders of Magnitude
A class in a system of classification determined by size, typically in powers of ten.
    • What is Beta Decay
This is when a nucleus emits an electron and an anti-neutrino and turns the neutron into a proton due to an imbalance of charge.
    • What are Hadrons
Hadrons are composite particles. they are made up of quarks that are held together by the strong force.
    • What are Mesons?
Mesons are a type of Hadron that consist of a quark and an antiquark
    • What are Fermions
They are the particles that give us matter. They are a group made up of Quarks, Electrons, Muons, Tau, and all the Neutrinos.
    • What are Bosons
Bosons are a group of sub-atomic particles made up of Gluons, W bosons, Z bosons, Higgs Bosons, Photons, and the postulated Graviton. They give rise to the fundamental forces.
    • What are the two sections of the standard model?
Fermions and Bosons. Fermions give us matter and Bosons gives us forces.
    • Why is an electron considered a fundamental particle but protons and neutrons are not?
Protons and Neutrons are made of Quarks whereas Electrons aren't made of anything smaller.
    • What is a Neutrino?
A neutrino is a fundamental particle(lepton) that is the product of any nuclear reaction.
    • What are Baryons
Baryons are a type of Hadrons that are made up of exclusively three quarks or three antiquarks
    • What are quarks?
      A sub-atomic particle carrying a fractional charge
    • What is significant about the Higgs Boson?
It gives other fundamental particles mass
