Transcription

• Production of a molecule of mRNA from a molecule of DNA.
• A complimentary copy of the code from a gene (DNA) is made by building a molecule of mRNA, using one strand of the DNA gene known as the template or non-coding strand.
• Transcription occurs in the nucleus.
• 3 major steps: Initiation – Elongation – Termination
• The outcome of the transcription process is the production of a mRNA molecule that carries the genetic information contained in DNA to the ribosomes for translation.
