    • The Trinity
      God is the father, the son and the holy spirit.
      The father wields the power.
      The son (Jesus) teachings are still influential today.
      The Holy Spirit was present at Jesus’ baptism and the creation of the world. Also is a source of constant guidance in a Christian’s life.

      when a spirit / deity takes human form.
      this is believed to have happened when God came to Earth as Jesus.

      the execution and death of Jesus on Good Friday.
      Matthew’s gospel : soldiers stripped Jesus and made him a crown of thorns.
      Jesus was offered wine before his crucifixion.
      when he died graves opened and God’s people rose from the dead.
      John’s gospel : Jesus drank wine then gave up his spirit.
      a soldier put his spear in Jesus’ side but water poured out instead of blood.
    • Resurrection
      Jesus rising for the dead on Easter Sunday.
      Mark 16:1-8 = Mary Magdalene and 2 other women went to the tomb. they saw a man in white robes he told them “Jesus of Nazareth has been raised” they were told to tell the disciples but they didn’t tell anyone.
      John 20:1-18 = Mary Magdalene and Simon Peter went to the tomb, they saw 2 angels and Jesus. he told them “Go to my brothers and tell them that I am returning to him who is my father.”
    • the Ascension
      the event, 40 days after the resurrection, when Jesus returned to God the father in heaven.
      this assured Christians that God will forgive their sins as he accepted Jesus back into heaven.
    • the afterlife
      Evangelical Christians - believe your soul will remain in the grave until God ends the world. when Jesus returns to earth (the last day) you are raised and then judged on if you can go to heaven.
      Liberal Christians - soul will leave the body and be judged by God straight away. you are judged on whether you have lived a good life.
    • Heaven and Hell
      heaven - place of freedom from pain, peace and joy.
      physical paradise rewarding the good.
      hell - place of eternal suffering, terror, fire and torture.
      if you reject God’s love you go to hell.
      some people think there is no hell as God is
      forgiving.
    • Sin
      the original sin says that everyone is born with a built- in urge to do bad things and to disobey God.
      the first sin committed was by Eve when a serpent convinced her to eat a piece of fruit from the Tree of Life.
    • atonement
      to restore the relationship between God and humans.
      Jesus’ crucifixion did this when he reconciled the relationship that was broken by the Original Sin.
    • salvation
      deliverance (saved) from sin and admission (entry) into heaven brought about by Jesus
