• classification of a mental disorder involves the identification of groups or patterns of behaviour or mental symptoms that occur together to form a type of disorder
• Psychotic disorders characterised by abnormal perception and thinking
• positive symptoms of schizophrenia- Hallucinations, Delusions
• Negative symptoms of schizophrenia, Avolition- reduced motivation to carry out a range of activities

  Alogia- reduced amount and quality of speech
• cognitive deficits of schizophrenia- disorganised thought or speech, thought insertion- believeing thoughts are placed there by someone else
• Anxiety disorders- anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive anxiety and worry. Can physiological problems such as increased heart rate + stomach problems
• Anxiety disorders- phobias + OCD
• ICD definitions for specific phobias- Aviodance of a specific object or situation

  At least two anxiety symptoms present from a list of 14
• Affective disorders- have a significant affect on an individuals mood- Bipolar and Major depression
• ICD symptoms of major depression- 4 or more symptoms moderate- 7+ severe depression

  symptoms present most of the time for at least 2 weeks.
• ICD key symptoms of depression- low mood, Loss of interest and pleasure, Reduced energy levels
