  • The final stage of a sere is reached when a state of environmental equilibrium is achieved - climatic climax. Eg: for a lithosere in the UK this would usually be woodland.
  • 'weeds' is an incorrect term, instead say wildflowers
  • Stores (stocks) - total amount of a material held within a part of the system. Stocks are usually expressed in units of mass.
  • Processes are physical mechanisms driving the flux of material between stores. Eg photosynthisis.
  • Carbon at different scales: plant scale, animal scale, sere scale, and a continental scale.
  • Features of a sustainable city: good public transport that is safe and reliable, walking and cycling is a valid alternative. Eg: Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain has bicycle lanes and electric charging points.
  • Sustainable city: involved planned expansion, encouraging 'compact cities', preventing unrestricted urban sprawl and developing brownfield sites.
  • Sustainable cities: Nantes, France using electric trams to decrease commuter traffic and encourage urban resergence.
  • Lithosere example: seed on bare rock, CO2 in rain can dissolve the minerals in the rock. Seed can grow. Plant death means soil, decomposers can live.
  • More plants will mean more evapotranspiration, this will mean more rainfall in the area as there is more water vapor to become a cloud so more rain.
