• Functional Classification of Joints

  based on amount of movement allows by the joint

  three functional classifications

  • synarthroses - immovable (skull, ribs, tibia and fibula, teeth, maxilla)
  • amphiarthroses - slightly moveable (pelvis, vertebral column)
  • diarthroses - freely moveable (elbow, shoulder, ankle)
