Q1 is always worth 15 marks and asks you to EXPLORE HOW THE TEXT USES THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS OF MEDIA LANGUAGE TO CREATE MEANING
The options you may be asked about are:
-Images
-Language
-Layout
-Mise-en-scene
-Character
-Narrative
-Intertextuality
-Typography
-Brand Identity
You will be asked about 2-3 of these and depending on how many are going to be how many marks each are worth (e.g if you are asked about 3 each will be 5 marks but if you are asked about 2, one will be worth 10 marks and the other 5). The total marks will ALWAYS be 15 though
To answer this question, you should use the PEALstructure. Repeat this TWICE in one paragraph for 5 marks.
(So, if you have 3 elements you are asked about, you would do PEAL twice for one element, e.g., images, then repeat with PEAL twice again for your next element, such as narrative.)
PEAL STRUCTURE:
Point - State how the element asked about creates meaning. (E.G. The text uses imagery to show an audience ___)
Evidence- Give an example in detail (E.G For example in the main image there are colours like ___ that make it ___)
Analysis - Give the connotations of the example you have stated (E.G The choice of this suggests that ___)
Link - Now link to audience or an alternative idea (E.G This would be used by ___ to appeal to their audience who ___)
