• Bone is 1 of the 4 types of connective tissue:

  • connective tissue proper
  • cartilage
  • osseous (bone)
  • blood

  
• Summary:

  • Bone is a hard connective tissue – suited to function by virtue of:
  • high collagen density
  • orientation of collagen fibres
  • orientation of lamellae (osteons or trabeculae)
  • a fantastic resilience conferred by Calcium hydroxyapatite
  • However the formation and maintenance of healthy bone is primarily a consequence of well-regulated bone cell activity
