Babur was a Muslim ruling in Turkestan who wanted to expand his territory, so in 1526, he defeated the emperor of Delhi and soon defeated other Indian chiefs.
Babur only ruled India for 4 years before dying.
Humayun was Baburs son.
The Afghan chief Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun in battle and took control of many of his territories. Humayun regained the control of all of his lands in 1555 but died only a year later.
Akbar Is Humayuns son
Akbar was 13 when he succeeded his father.
Akbar extended the Mughal Empire much further. He was also influenced by Sufi beliefs and announced his own religion, Din-e-Illahi in 1581 which was a mix of Islam and Hinduism. However this religion died out after Akbar's death.
Akbar ruled for almost 50 years and died in 1605.
Akbar's son was Jehangir
Jehangir continued to expand the Mughal Empire.
Jehangir signed a commercial treaty with the British not knowing that they were going to be the ones to overthrow the Mughals.
Jehangirs son was Khurram but he was also known as Shah Jehan.
Shah Jehan is responsible for building the Taj Mahal.
Shah Jehan military campaigns were usually unsuccessful, however he was sucoin defeating the Portuguese after they tried to forcibly convert Muslim girls to Christianity.
