  • Sir Edmund Andros was the Governor of New England (1686 to 1689). Andros laid his own taxes, revoked land titles, and reinforced the Navigation Laws, causing salutary neglect to end and colonists profit to decrease. By revoking peoples land titles they cant vote.
  • William and Mary (1689 to 1702) were protestants who ushered in a generation of war and salutary neglect, ensured religious freedom for Protestants, and allowed colonial elites to rule. Colonists were able to have protection and make profit without paying for it.
  • John Smith was an English explorer who in 1608 became the president of the council for Jamestown. Through his position he evoked a policy of discipline in the colony. Smith with his order that colonists work or face starvation in order to gain a profit from tobacco for the colony.
  • John Locke was a philosopher who believed that everyone begins life equal and people have inalienable rights including, life, liberty, and property.
