  • What is meant by political influences?
    Influences within parliament for example Government policy -government bills and Individual MPs or Peers - Private members bill
  • Why does the Government policy have such a huge influence?
    Because they're the political party with the majority of MPs in the House of Commons.
    They also control the parliamentary timetable and can determined which laws are passed and which bills are prioritised.
  • How is Government policy evident?
    When a general election is held each political party presents a party manifesto setting out their proposals if elected.
  • Examples of Government policy's
    • Labour Party's Manifesto in 1997 general election which promised to 'bring rights home' - Human Rights Act 1998
  • What are other things government bills represent?
    Reactions to events - Firearms Act 1997
