NIPE

• When should a NIPE exam be performed?

  Within 72 hrs of birth

  6-8 wks (usually by GP)
• What type of exposure is needed at the start of a NIPE examination?

  Baby down to their nappy
• What questions need to be asked in a NIPE?

  Pregnancy details -> date, time, type of delivery, complications, high-risk antenatal screening

  Any abnormalities on antenatal scans

  FHx -> hearing problems/hip dislocation/childhood heart problems/congenital cataracts/renal problems

  Newborn Hx -> feeding, urination, passing of meconium, parental concerns
