  • What is structural formula?
It is the representation which shows minimal details of the arrangement of molecules
  • What is displayed formula?
It shows the relative positioning of each atom with the bonds surrounding them
  • What is the skeletal formula?
It is the most simple organic formula showing a carbon skeleton
  • What is an aliphatic compound?
It is a compound that only has carbon and hydrogens in straight, branched chains or non aromatic rings
  • What is an aromatic compound?
It is a compound which only contains a benzene ring
  • What is an alicyclic compoud?
it is a compound in non aromatic rings with or without side chains
  • What is a structural isomer?
It is a compound with the same molecular formula but different structural formula
  • What is homolytic fission?
it is where each bonding atom recieves one electron from the bonding pair, forming 2 radicals
  • What is heterolytic fission?
It is where one bonding atom recieves both electrons meaning that a positive and negative ion is formed
  • What is a radical?
It is an atom with an unpaired electrons
