  • aim - to investigate speed, frequency and wavelength of waves in a solid
  • 1 - attach one end of a string to a vibration generator and a hanging mass on the other end to keep string taut
  • 2 - the vibration generator is attached to a signal generator, this allows us to change the frequency of vibration of the string
  • 3 - turning on the generator gives us a standing wave due to an effect called resonance
  • 4 - measure the wavelength of standing wave with a ruler. measure total wavelength from wooden bridge to standing generator
  • 5 - calculate speed using frequency x wavelength
