Resource management - water

    Cards (6)

    • Global water supply is not evenly distributed, with some places having a water surplus and others having a water deficit.
    • Countries along the Equator generally have enough water due to high levels of rainfall caused by warm, moist air rising.
    • Countries to the north of the Equator, at a latitude of approximately 30°, have physical water scarcity due to a lack of available water for everyone.
    • Countries to the south of the Equator, at a latitude of approximately 30°, experience some water scarcity due to a shortage of fresh water.
    • Countries with the highest latitudes, those that are furthest away from the Equator, generally have enough rainfall to provide plenty of fresh water.
    • Exceptions to this rule exist in countries with high population densities or countries where poverty causes economic water scarcity.
