The 1905 Revolution

• In January 1905 5 men from the particularly radical Putilov Steel plant in St petersburg were sacked. Their fellow workers came out on strike in support of sacked worklers. News spread throughout the capital and by the 7th of january over 100 000 workers were out on a strike
• The bloody Sunday was on January 22nd
• The crowd intended to pass a petition to the tsar. The march was fired upon by soldiers. 200 were killed, others injured
• Following Bloody Sunday a wave of riots hit Russia, strikes in St Petersburg, riots in the countryside by peasants, land and propert seized by peasants, who were worried about paying off large debts
• Social revolutionaries murdered Grand Duke Sergei, the tsar's uncle, this shook the tsar , who mad eplans for a consultative assembly
