Strengths & Weaknesses

    Cards (19)

    • Footwork - Strength
Footwork in netball is essential for balance, movement and control. The athlete moves fluently with kin-aesthetic awareness, ensuring efficient transitions between attack and defence. From what I saw, she lands with one foot following the other, maintaining stability and allowing for quick pivots without any stepping violations. Her ability to change direction swiftly gives her an advantage over defenders and improves overall game play.
    • Shooting - Strength Skill
Shooting requires precise hand positioning, balance and control. She flicks her wrist to create the necessary arc, demonstrating confidence under pressure. She uses antagonistic muscle pairs in her arms - the biceps brachii and triceps brachii. In the preparation phase, her biceps brachii are undergoing concentric contractions as it is shortening under tension. In the execution phase, her triceps brachii now undergo concentric contraction to allow the follow through for the ball to create a loop and enter the post.
    • Positioning - Strength Skill
She stands side-on, enabling quick reactions to the defenders movements and the ball's trajectory. She is able to subtly shift her weight to her dominant foot to allow her to gain an advantage in her attacking plays. This skill may be developed through social learning theory, where she observes and imitates role models such as coaches and professional players.
    • Passing - Strength Skill
Passing is a key component of fluid game play, requiring accuracy and strength. The player demonstrates a strong range of passes, using chest, bounce and shoulder passes when appropriate. Her understanding of projectile motion improves her ability to deliver precise passes to teammates as she is able to release the ball at its optimal angle preferably 45 degrees to allow perfect horizontal displacement. Quick decision making in passes ensures continuous play and reduces the risk of interceptions
    • Lack of interceptions - Weakness Skill
The player struggles with interceptions, often finding it difficult to predict her opponent's next move. Improving her defensive awareness would increase her ability to read the game and disrupt the opposition's offensive play. Extrinsic motivation from a coach could enhance her confidence and encourage more interceptions to be made
    • Rebounding - Weakness Skill
She struggles to anticipate the ball's trajectory and lacks the strength to hold a stable base under the post after shooting. The use of strength training and a reliance of ATP-PC system could improve her explosive power, making her more effective in securing rebounds. Ultimately, this would enhance her success rate in gaining possession of the ball after missed shots.
    • Frequent Long Range Shots - Weakness Skill
From what I saw, the shooter was mainly forced out of the semi circle due to strong defensive play. This caused the shooter to be away from the post to take a shot. She was unable to accurately apply her shooting technique when forced out. This can be due to her high arousal levels as she is under pressure from the defender and also for timing she has with the ball. This can be seen by the inverted U theory where once the arousal levels pass their optimal levels, performance begins to decline.
    • Sandwiching - Strength Tactics
The GS effectively uses sandwiching tactics to occupy defenders and create space for the GA. she engages in isometric contractions to hold her position and resist defensive pressure. Improving her decision making in high pressure situations would further enhance her tactical contribution to the team
    • Communication - Strength Tactic
The player communicates well with teammates, ensuring clear passing options and movement strategies. Verbal such as 'hold' or 'switch' and non-verbal signals help in positioning and play execution. This increases efficiency in attack and defence, leading to better overall performance
    • Marking GK on back-line pass - Tactics Strength
The GS marks the GK on back-line passes, effectively disrupting the opposition's ability to build up play. By improving her ability to read the game, she could increase the number of turnovers gained for her team.
    • Timing - Tactics Strength
The GS times her movements well, aligning them with the ball's trajectory to gain an advantage over the defenders. This skill was strengthened by operant conditioning, where successful attempts have reinforced desirable behaviour to increase in likelihood of occurring.
    • Strong Hold - Tactics Weakness
From what I saw, the shooter struggles to hold her position against defenders, often being pushed out of the shooting circle. The use of ATP-PC would allow for an assertive stance which would prevent defenders from easily displacing her
    • Changing Channels - Tactics Weakness
Throughout the match, I saw the GS was frequently receiving passes from the same side, making it easier for defenders to anticipate her movements. By learning to switch channels more effectively, it would increase unpredictability and create more scoring opportunities.
    • CoF - Strength Flexibility
The player demonstrates good flexibility, particularly in the hamstrings group (biceps femoris, semitendinousus, semimembranosus), which allows for fluent movement an extended shot angles.
    • CoF - Agility
The GS demonstrates good agility, using fast glycolytic muscle fibres to accelerate past her defenders. Quick directional changes allow her to creat space and position herself effectively for shots, whilst maintaining speed, balance and power
    • CoF - Strength Speed
This is essential for fast transitions between attack and defence. The player's lower-body explosive power contributes to her ability to move quickly across court. Faster movement would allow her to gain better positioning and execute plays more efficiently
    • CoF - Weakness Reaction Time
The GS struggles with reaction time from what I saw, often missing opportunities to secure rebounds or intercept passes. Faster reactions would aid for turnovers and enhance overall performance.
    • CoF - Weakness Power
The shooter lacks lower body power, making it difficult to elevate quickly and contest for rebounds against stronger defenders. This weakness limits her ability to secure second chance shooting opportunities and maintain dominance under the post.
    • CoF - Weakness Muscular Endurance
The shooter fatigues quickly, leading to a weaker shot execution and reduced accuracy in later quarters. This also affects her ability to maintain a strong hold under defensive pressure, making her easier to be pushed out of position
