learning

Cards (9)

  • operant conditioning- positive reinforcement can lead to aggression as aggressive behaviours are mostly acquired through positive reinforcement as there is reward for the behaviour
  • there are many types of rewards that is involved in positive reinforcement such as Tangible- that you can touch such as money, objects and Intangible- that you cant touch such as social status, peer pressure
  • social learning theory is when most aggression can be indirect and occurs through observation, modelling, vicarious reinforcement and imitation
  • a person observes how an aggressive behaviour is performed such as the bobo doll- Bandura experiment therefore, behaviour can be explained as a result of seeing role models behave aggressively
  • vicarious reinforcement is when people also observe the consequences of behaviour. If the behaviour is reinforced, observer imitates as they experience second hand reward
  • self efficacy is a persons confidence in their ability to achieve rewards. so they observe-learn, self efficacy, imitate-put actions into practice
  • cognitive control on aggression is that the observer must pay attention to models aggressive behaviour and remeber their actions and must want to produce the aggressive behaviour
  • a strength of learning explanation for aggression is that social learning theory explains the effect of media as video games or social media provide models that we want to imitate. Children learn by SLT
  • a weakness of the learning explanation of aggression is that learning doesnt account for all aggression- doesnt explain hostile aggression. sometimes punishment isnt effective in extinguishing aggression
