ischiofemoral ligament

• Hip joint - Extracapsular ligaments: Ischiofemoral ligament (Posterior)

  • Origin: Body of ischium and then spirals over neck of femur
  • Insertion: Root of the greater trochanter
  • Limits: Extension & medial rotation and abduction
  • Note presence of Iliopsoas bursa anteriorly to separate tendon of iliopsoas (communicating)
