  • A policy is a rules/actions you have to follow.
  • A procedure is the action you are carrying out. (You follow procedure to follow a policy)
  • Legislation -> policy -> procedure
    • NHS Policys are equality. Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisations. Welfare concretions. High standard of safecare.
  • NHS England safeguarding policy is Single system view to enable integrated care​
    • Sets out the safeguarding roles, responsibilities of all organisations in the NHS​
    • Defines how they work together​
    • Outline professional leadership​
    • Collective and individual expectations​
    • Supporting legislation​
    • Equality and diversity​
    • Outlines the key principles to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk of harm or abuse​
    • Annual review​
    • A policy is a deliberate system of principles/rules to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes. ​
    • A policy is a statement of intent of what an organisation wants to run like.​
    • The organisation itself comes up with the policies based on the legislation ​
    • The procedure is the way this policy carried out (action).​
    • Essentially, they are a detailed guideline and instruction that support your overarching safeguarding policy statement.​
    • They then need to be followed by every member of that organisation​
  • PROCEDURES
    • They are guided by current government policy​
    • They include the standardsprinciples that are required to be followed by everyone AKA what actions/behaviour they should be doing to keep people safe​
    • If they are not followed, then the consequence could be court prosecutions or fired for those responsible for breaking them/not following and putting others at risk​
  • POLICIES
    • Can be national or local​
    • Can be set out an organisations systems’ and how it plans to meet its legal requirements​
    • State what an organisation hopes to achieve i.e. their aims​
    • They are NOT law, but they can include guidance for those using them​
    • Not following them may result in individuals being harmed, damage to an organisations reputation, dismissal from job role and/or mistakes being made​

    Confidentiality policy​- Ensuring patient information is keep private and is on a need to know basis.
