• Barrett and McIntosh - Strong ideology supporting family life - Considers that the ideal family makes everything look pale in comparison so other institutions are seen as unsatisfactory, shallow and lacks meaning
• Criticisms: Lane- Marxist states still have gender inequalities, women still have to work harder to get the same pay as men, men control family life and have the top positions in society
