knowing the short term and potentiall long term affects we need to find ways to try to reduce the impact of seperation or prevent it altogether enabling children to maintain attachments and minimise the distress
  • In hospitals ( going from robertsons study) before they had limited visiting hours for parents to try reduce the times it would upset them now there is accomindation near provided to allow for daily visits or in some cases a bed provided in the childs room for a parent so the attachment can be maintained
Ronald Mcdonald house charity is one of many charitys that fund accomidation to allow familys to remain close to the hospital,
  • In childcare ( day care, nursery) while parent at work, there is a suplimentary attachment figure. we know young children can make multiple attachment and with carefull planning a "key person approach" a day nursery can foster and suport attachments between individual staff and individual children.
  • In childcare the key person would be responsible for a small goup and be there to provide comfort, be sensitive to emotional and physical needs, and be there when reunited with the parent so that a link is formed.
