Bays and headlands

• soft rock erodes faster than hard rock (differential erosion)
• Cliffs of hard rock stick out to the sea forming a headland
• Softer rock is eroded away forming a bay
• Eg headland= Ramore head, Portrush

  bay= west strand, Portrush
• bands of hard and soft rock are found at the coast
• Soft rock is eroded by hydraulic action and abrasion
• Hard rock is resistant to ersosion forming headlands
