The motor effect

Cards (6)

  • What is the motor effect
. A wire carrying a current creates a magnetic field
. This can interact with another magnetic field, causes a force that pushes the wire at right angles
  • Equation for calculating force of motor effect
    . Force (N) = Magnetic flux X current X Length
    Density (T) (A) (M)
  • The equation only applies to A wire which is at right angles to the magnetic field
  • Magnetic flux density is a measure of the strength of the magnetic field
  • What is Flemings left hand rule
. Place thumb, first finger, and second ringer so they are at right angles
. Point first finger in direction of the magnetic field from north to south
. Point second fingering first finger in direction of conventional current
. Direction of thumb shows direction of the force
  • If the conductor is parallel to the magnetic field it will not experience a force
