• increased transport technology allows for healthy lifestyles. nutritious food can be imported and we have more choice and a varied diet, increasing our health
• technology allows us to safely preserve food for much longer e.g. fridges and freezers
• the 3 main factors that has led to globalisation - new transport technology, new communications technology and political changes.
• new transport technology - air travel allows people to go anywhere in the world in less than a day. allows a rise in international trade and migration
• new communications technology - digital tech has allowed us to communicate with anyone anywhere in the world instantly. this allows different societies to connect.
• political changes - due to technological developments, ther ehave been a number of different political organisations established like the united nations and EU that encourages international cooperation and migration
• 3 waves of migration - 1950s, 1962 commonwealth immigrants act and 2004
• 1950s wave of migration - significant increase of black carribean families living in UK. many are signle mums. the 2021 consenus found 24% of black people live in a single parent household compared to 10% of white people. Dennis and Erdos - fatherless families. feminists - strong independent role models
• 1962 Commonwealth Immigrants Act - increase of South Asian families (Indian, Pakistani etc). more traditional extended families and follow traditional values.
• 2004 - new countires joined the EU (e.g. latvia, poland, slovenia etc) and led to an increase in eastern european families. many are young people looking for work. many have a higher birth rate than UK women
