hooke's law

Cards (4)

    • Hooke's Law describes how extension happen when object increases in length, and compression happens when it decreases in length
  • the formula is f = ke
    • spring constant is measure of stiffness of spring up to limit of proportionality
    • limit of proportionality refers to beyond which Hooke's Law is not true
    • higher spring constant, stiffer spring
    • extension proportional to force for spring
    • until limit of proportionality exceeded
    • elastic limit is furthest point it can be stretched whle being able to return to previous shape
    • once material past elastic limit, deformation said to be inelastic
    • force and extension becomes non-linear
    • shown in materials like clay or putty
