  • Laws were passed which showed changing attitudes & a demand for more civil rights:
    -Before 1832 only 5% of the population could vote but 1832 Great Reform Act gave vote to men who owned property or paid high rents
    -1867 and 1884 more working class men given vote
    -1829 Catholic Emancipation Act; Catholics were given almost all same civil rights as Protestants
    -1807 British Slave Trade was abolished
    -1833 Slavery was forbidden in British Empire
