  • Area-based initiatives (1997 - 2000s)
    • Created by ' New Labour ', ran by Tony Blair as an attempt to modernise the government
    • The party had a strong focus on social problems, and so set targets to improve levels of health, education and employment opportunities
    • Example: New Deal for Communities (NDC)
    • Unlike CCPs, NDC did not involve competition, instead focusing on what areas needed regeneration
  • Aims:
    • Reduce worklessness and crime
    • Improve health, education, and community safety
    • Improve housing and the environment
    • Maintain or sustain the impact of initiatives by strengthening community
